-What you need to Know-
Knowing you probably have
several questions about how things work at the Sugar Mill,
we have prepared this sheet to help you feel at home as
soon as possible.
BARS: Service is provided at the main bar
in the morning, late afternoon and evenings. Islands beach
bar is open from noon until 2pm.
BOUTIQUE: The Sugar Shack Boutique is located
behind the bar and offers a range of colourful island clothes,
tee shirts, and locally made crafts and paintings, sun lotions
and books, including The Sugar Mill Cook book which contains
many recipes from our restaurant.
CHECK-OUT: If you plan to check-out before
8:00am, please let us know so we can have your bill ready
the night before. Check-in time is 3pm and check-out time
is 12 noon. Your room should be vacated by this time.
ELECTRICITY: All outlets are 110 volts,
60 cycles. Please help us conserve energy by turning off
lights and fans when not in use as our electricity rates
are simply astonishing. Please ensure that all windows and
doors are closed in those rooms using air-conditioning.
FUN AND GAMES: You will find an activities
book at the bar listing daysails, scuba diving, windsurfing,
and other watersports. Snorkeling equipment is available
at the bar. Games and playing cards are available from the
concierge or bartender. Feel free to help yourself to books
from our small library, if you don’t finish a book
before you leave, take it and leave another in exchange.
HAITIAN PAINTINGS: The Sugar Mill has an
interesting collection of Haitian art, some of which is
available for purchase. Paintings must be selected at least
24 hours before departure if you need them packed. A service
charge is added for packing and shipping. Art works are
duty free when taken to the U.S., Canada or the U.K.
HOTEL PROPERTY: Beach towels are placed
in your room on arrival. Please be careful not to misplace
them. The towels will not be replaced unless they are in
your room or have been turned in to the laundry. There will
be a charge for lost towels. Please do not hang wet bathing
suits and towels over balconies or porches. Drying racks
are provided.
HOW CAN WE HELP? Please let us know if
there is anything we can do to make your stay with us more
memorable. The concierge will be on duty every morning at
the main bar to answer any questions you may have and to
make arrangements for you, from hiking up Sage Mountain,
learning to Scuba dive or flying to Anegada for the day.
Just ask!
ISLAND DRESSING: Skimpy attire is frowned
on by most local people, so it is a courtesy to cover up,
including footwear, when walking on public streets or visiting
Road Town. We applaud bikinis on our property.
LAUNDRY: Laundry bags and lists can be
found in the closet. Please fill out the list and leave
with the laundry on the bed for the maid to pick up.
MAID SERVICE: Our maids provide full service
but are not expected to wash dishes for meals you cook in
your room.
MAIL AND TELEPHONES: A flashing light on
your telephone indicates that you have a voice message,
to access your messages, press the Voice Mail button on
your telephone. AT&T calling cards may be used by dialing
8-1-800-872-2881. A charge of $1.00 will be added to your
phone bill for use of this service. Any calls made by the
hotel on behalf of our guests will be charged accordingly.
There is a public telephone in the passageway at the east
end of the Sugar Mill Restaurant where credit cards may
be used when making long distance calls. Incoming mail and
messages can be picked up at the bar and outgoing mail left
there. BVI stamps are available from the front desk and
please note that U.S. stamps may not be used on mail from
the BVI.
MEALS: Breakfast is served from 8am until
10am on the terrace below the main bar. Please help yourself
to coffee and tea from the service table and a waitress
will serve you breakfast. Lunch is available at our Beach
Bar, “Islands” from noon until 2pm. Dinner is
served in the main dining room from 7pm. The evening’s
menu is displayed at the end of the bar each morning. If
you would like to join us for dinner, please sign your name
and room number under the time you prefer to be seated by
5pm so that we can reserve a table for you. Dress in the
dining room is casual, though a touch of glamour is never
out of place.
MONEY MATTERS: Bar, meals and incidental
charges are put on your account. There is no need to carry
money on the hotel premises. Each day’s charges will
be accounted on your final bill. Currency is the U.S. dollar.
Settlement of your bill can be made with cash (yes, we still
accept it!) travellers’ cheques or major credit card
(Visa, Master Card or American Express). Travellers’
cheques can be cashed or purchased at the banks in Road
Town where ATM machines are also available.
PICNIC LUNCHES: We can arrange a Gourmet
lunch for you, but require 24 hours notice to prepare it.
RECONFIRMATIONS: It is essential to reconfirm
inter-island flights at least 72 hours before departure.
Please fill out the reconfirmation form in this folder and
bring it to the front desk so we can confirm your flight.
SAFETY: Winter brings strong surf and undertow
to many of our long white beaches. Our small beach is protected
by a reef and is usually safe for confident swimmers when
the sea is high, but always use caution. If you drive, Think
Left and Stay Left.
SWIMMING POOL: Our freshwater pool is yours
to enjoy. There is no lifeguard on duty and parents are
asked to supervise children. Flippers are not allowed in
the pool. When using heavy suntan oil please shower before
using the pool. There is a shower at the west end of the
pool bar to wash off oil or sand before taking the plunge.
TIPPING: A service charge of 10% is added
to your bill.
VALUABLES: Even in this virtually crime-free
country, we cannot be responsible for valuables left in
your room. Please allow us to put them in our safe which
can be accessed between 7.00am and 10.00pm.
WATER: It’s pure and drinkable, though
a precious commodity in our sunny islands. Please report
any leaky faucet or running toilet to us immediately.
